Outback Bowl - ‘Cats Burn Through All Nine Lives And Then A Few More: Auburn 38 - Northwestern 35 (OT)

NU lost the Outback Bowl. I found it to be an emotional whipsaw. (Hey, I’m a blogger from NU/CAS, not a Medill grad - screw objectivity.) It was a tough game to lose. I’m thinking what to write in my review of the game.

There are two things I’ll say:

  • I’ve never seen a team that just totally refused to give up like this team. The football Wildcats have hearts of lions and the attitude of champions. They should all be proud of themselves.
  • Aubie and Nova know they were in a fight. But I refuse to call it a “moral victory” or to celebrate beating the point spread. NU has made enough progress since the “Bad Times” that we’re past the whole “moral victory” thing. Only real victories count now. Conference champions don’t track “moral victories.” Nor do national champions. NU can get both done - the former 3 times in 15 years, the latter… eventually.

I’ll write more in a day or so.

It will be a long 9 months waiting for the new football season...

Hail to Purple,

Hail to White,

Hail to Thee Northwestern!

Go ‘Cats!

PS: I tweeted throughout the game (nuspiritleader). I’ll copy the feed to this blog soon. I need a day or so just to recover. Thank you to the folks who followed/responded/commented.
